http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1005

This research aims to improve learning outcomes in science using audio-visual media. As a natural science, it aims to educate students in understanding natural sciences, such as natural phenomena and how to understand scientific methods and then apply them with a scientific attitude. Science is also a field of study that studies the natural sciences, namely substances, both living and non-living things. Based on the results of the initial survey, with the majority of students being less active in participating in learning activities, student learning outcomes in science are still low, and many have not yet achieved the KKTP (Preparatory Competency Level). Based on these problems, the researcher made efforts to improve the learning process by using audio-visual media. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with data collection using several methods: observation, tests, and documents. Learning was conducted in two cycles, with 13 students from fourth grade participating in the study. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that: Student learning outcomes using audio-visual media are as follows: In the pre-cycle, 6 students (46.15%) achieved learning completion with an average score of 73.69. In the first cycle, 8 students (61.54%) achieved learning completion with an average score of 75.69. Furthermore, in the second cycle, student learning outcomes improved further, with 11 students (84.62%) achieved learning completion with an average score of 82.00, completing the learning. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of audio-visual media can improve student learning outcomes in the fourth-grade science subject at SDN 01 Sidomekar.

Keywords: Audio-visual media, Learning Outcomes, IPAS.
Lestari LestariDwilita AstutiBambang Ariyanto

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1454

This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of English language learning through the Wajar Dikdas (Compulsory Education) programme at Sidogiri Banat 1 Islamic Boarding School, focusing on its usefulness and English teachers’ characteristics. A qualitative descriptive method was employed using questionnaires and interviews as data collection instruments. The participants consisted of 72 students involved in English learning activities within the programme. Questionnaire data were analyzed descriptively using percentages, while interview data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that students generally hold positive perceptions of English learning through the Wajar Dikdas programme (compulsory education), particularly in improving understanding, motivation, and classroom interaction. English teachers were perceived as friendly, motivating, and supportive. However, some students reported neutral perceptions regarding their confidence in speaking English. These findings suggest that while the programme effectively supports English learning in pesantren contexts, improvements in communicative teaching strategies are still needed.
Mar’atun Nisa’Norma Ita Sholichah

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1460

This study aims to investigate students’ perceptions of lecturers’ code-switching practices in EFL classrooms and their impact on students’ speaking skills. Specifically, the study focuses on how code-switching supports speaking development, influences students’ confidence, and affects their attention span during the learning process. This research employed a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews as the main data collection technique. The participants were fifth-semester students of the English Education Department at Al-Qolam University. The interview data were collected in both Indonesian and English to allow participants to express their views naturally. The data were analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns and key themes related to code-switching and speaking skills. The findings reveal that most students perceive code-switching as a beneficial pedagogical strategy. Code-switching helps students understand learning materials more clearly, increases confidence to speak English, and creates a more supportive classroom atmosphere. Although code-switching does not directly improve speaking fluency, it indirectly supports speaking development by enhancing comprehension and reducing anxiety. However, the findings also indicate that excessive use of code-switching may lead to students’ dependency on translation, potentially limiting their exposure to English. Additionally, code-switching was found to help maintain students’ attention span, particularly when dealing with complex materials or task instructions. Based on these findings, this study recommends that lecturers use code-switching strategically and proportionally in EFL classrooms. Code-switching should function as pedagogical support rather than a substitute for English instruction, especially in speaking-focused courses. Future research is suggested to explore lecturers’ perspectives and classroom observations to gain a more comprehensive understanding of code-switching practices in EFL contexts..
Hanifa HanifaMuyassaroh Muyassaroh

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1464

This study explores students’ perceptions of English language learning at Raudlatul Ulum 2 Islamic Boarding School, examining its position within the curriculum, the challenges students face, and the factors influencing their motivation. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through surveys, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations and analysed thematically. The findings show that while students recognize English as a strategic skill for accessing global knowledge, higher education, international communication, and career opportunities, it remains secondary to the Islamic boarding school’s primary focus on Islamic sciences and Arabic due to curriculum priorities, limited teaching resources, and less engaging instructional methods. Despite these institutional constraints, students demonstrate high internal motivation, particularly driven by aspirations for higher education and global engagement, and view English as a tool for preaching and disseminating Islamic values, indicating that religious principles support rather than hinder language learning. The study also highlights the potential of innovative, student-centred methods—such as interactive games, digital-assisted instruction, and contextualized projects—to increase engagement, enhance language competence, and integrate English into daily practice. These findings suggest that with systemic support, culturally sensitive, and contextually relevant programs, English learning in Islamic boarding school can become a strategic competence that aligns with students’ academic, professional, and spiritual development.
M IlyasBudik Kusworo

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1487

This study aims to find out how local people perceive foreign cultures in the tourist area of Gili Trawangan in Gili Indah Village, Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency (KLU). This type of research is qualitative research. The type of data used is primary data, which was obtained by conducting interviews with 15 respondents. The results of this study indicate that Gili Trawangan is famous for its beautiful beaches, so it is not surprising that many foreign tourists visit Gili Trawangan. The entry of foreign cultures into Gili Trawangan certainly brings cultural changes, but not all cultural changes have a negative impact, some also have a positive impact. The positive impacts of the entry of foreign cultures into Gili Trawangan include the existence of economic opportunities for some local people, the presence of foreign tourists brings great economic opportunities. The tourism industry provides employment and a source of income for the local population through accommodation, restaurants, transportation and various tourism-related businesses. Meanwhile, the negative impacts of the entry of foreign cultures into Gili Trawangan include foreign tourists who can bring cultural influences from their countries of origin.
Suesilowati SuesilowatiAndi Ilham Satria Herlangga

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1458

This study aims to reconstruct the paradigm of ecotheology as a response to the global ecological crisis rooted in anthropocentrism and the secularization of the relationship between humans and nature. The research employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach and hermeneutical analysis of Islamic theological sources, particularly the concepts of cosmic tawhid, khalifah (stewardship), mīzān (balance), the prohibition of fasād (corruption/destruction), and ihsan (moral excellence). The findings indicate that an ideal ecotheological paradigm should be developed through the integration of spiritual awareness, ecological ethics, and sustainable social praxis. Ecotheology functions not merely as an environmental ethic, but as an epistemological foundation and civilizational orientation that affirms the interconnectedness of humans, nature, and God. The resulting operational model of ecotheology positions spirituality as the basis of ecological consciousness, ethics as moral regulation, and ecological action as its concrete implementation in social life.
Syawaluddin HanafiAndi YaqubRahmatun NairAbdul Muid NawawiArini PratiwiMuspita Sari

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1340

The interconnected world of the 21st century has shifted the goal of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education from mere linguistic competence to the holistic development of Intercultural Communication Competence (ICC). This study investigates the crucial role of Language Learning Strategies (LLS) employed by EFL students in facilitating the acquisition and deployment of ICC. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research explores the lived experiences of five purposively selected EFL university students in Indonesia, focusing on their strategic actions when engaging in cross-cultural interactions. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, reflective journals, and non-participant observation of simulated intercultural tasks. The findings reveal that social/affective LLS (e.g., seeking out native speakers, showing empathy) and specific metacognitive LLS (e.g., directed attention to cultural norms, self-monitoring for cultural appropriateness) are the most instrumental in developing ICC's key components: Attitudes (openness and curiosity), Knowledge (understanding cultural values), and Skills (interpreting and relating). The study concludes that explicit instruction in LLS, particularly those encouraging social and reflective engagement, is vital for transforming EFL learners into intercultural competent global citizens. This work provides pedagogical implications for EFL educators to integrate LLS training within a culturally-rich curriculum.

Keywords: Language Learning Strategies (LLS), Intercultural Communication Competence (ICC), EFL Students, Qualitative Case Study, Intercultural Awareness, Social Strategies.
Adriani JihadSyarifuddin Dollah

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1449

Maintaining the sustainability of oral culture is a necessity amidst the onslaught of the modern era that threatens its survival. This research focuses on investigating how the Kajang indigenious people maintain and continue to perform kelong jaga only through word of mouth as in Yugoslavia (Lord, 1981). The author analyzed the data using a descriptive qualitative approach. Performance recordings and interviews with experienced performers, traditional rulers, and locals comprised the data. The result shows 3 phases. This begins at an early age by listening and absorbing to the kelong jaga to be familiar with the words, tempo, sound, and so on; then next phase is practicing, learners practice the kelong jaga during their leisure time. They would usually gather in a little shelter in the middle of a rice field to act out kelong jaga; and the last phase is performing in front of real audience.
A. http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1514

This study aims to analyze Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning related to member activeness in congregational prayer at the 1705/Nabire Military District Command (Kodim). The focus of the study is the factors influencing member participation and coaching strategies to increase the consistency of collective worship. The main problem is the lack of consistency among some members due to busy official duties, operational dynamics, and an unstructured reinforcement system, resulting in a gap between understanding of PAI values and daily practice. A qualitative approach with a case study method was used to obtain an in-depth overview. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, analyzed descriptively and interpretively using behaviorist learning theory that emphasizes the stimulus-response relationship and the importance of reinforcement. Religious behavior such as congregational prayer can be formed through consistent stimuli, positive reinforcement, and structured habituation. The results show that positive reinforcement in the form of appreciation, recognition, and moral support from leaders increases member motivation. Clear scheduling, consistent supervision, and leadership role models also build a religious culture. The integration of PAI values with the culture of military discipline supports behaviorist habituation. However, strengthening intrinsic motivation is still necessary so that worship grows from internal awareness, not solely from rules or rewards. The behaviorist approach is relevant, but its effectiveness is optimal if combined with comprehensive religious character development.
Alim BakhriDika Tripitasari

http://ojs.staialfurqan.ac.id/IJoASER/article/view/1512

This article discusses assessment and psychological evaluation in Islamic education as a holistic process oriented toward the comprehensive development of students’ personalities. Islamic education emphasizes not only the mastery of knowledge but also the development of affective, spiritual, and character dimensions. Therefore, evaluation systems need to integrate Islamic values such as justice, honesty, balance, and moral responsibility with modern educational psychology approaches. The discussion covers principles of evaluation in Islam; cognitive, affective, and spiritual assessment; the implementation of authentic assessment; the use of observational instruments to monitor character development; as well as the importance of validity and reliability in the construction of assessment tools. Authentic assessment is employed to evaluate students’ abilities through real-life practices that reflect the internalization of Islamic values in daily life. The validity and reliability of evaluation instruments are essential to ensure that assessment results are objective and can be scientifically and morally justified. This study is based on issues related to assessment and psychological evaluation in Islamic education, with a focus on five key considerations: principles of evaluation in Islam; cognitive, affective, and spiritual assessment; authentic assessment; observational instruments for character development; and validity and reliability within the Islamic framework.
