Tradisi Lusan dalam Pernikahan Adat Jawa Ditinjau Dari Perspektif Hukum Islam di Desa Harjosari Kecamatan Karangpandan Kabupaten Karanganyar

Abstract

This study examines the Lusan Tradition in Javanese Traditional Weddings in Harjosari Village, Karangpandan District, Karanganyar Regency, and how this tradition is viewed from an Islamic legal perspective. The Lusan Tradition is a community belief that prohibits marriage between the first and third children because it is considered to have a negative impact on household life. This study uses a qualitative method with an empirical approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation of traditional leaders, religious leaders, and participants in Lusan weddings. The results show that the Lusan tradition is still believed by some people, especially the older generation. However, a stronger religious understanding among the younger generation has encouraged a change in attitudes towards this tradition. From an Islamic legal perspective, there are no texts or sharia provisions that prohibit marriage based on birth order. A marriage in Islam is declared valid if it meets the specified pillars and requirements, such as the presence of a guardian, two witnesses, and the ijab and qabul (consent). The belief that Lusan marriages can bring bad luck is considered tathayyur, which is contrary to the principle of monotheism. Thus, the Lusan Tradition cannot be used as a basis for determining the validity of a marriage in Islam. Islam recommends that every form of tradition be judged based on its alignment with sharia, not solely on its cultural heritage.
