Abstract

This study analyzes the role and function of accreditation in ensuring hospitals' legal responsibility for health services in Indonesia, employing a literature review method. Hospital accreditation is an official recognition granted to institutions that comply with nationally established standards for quality and safety. Accreditation enables hospitals to enhance service quality and governance while also offering legal protection in the event of disputes with patients. Simultaneously, it upholds patients' rights, including safety, privacy, and active involvement in medical decision-making. The findings reveal that accreditation effectively functions as both a quality assurance and legal protection mechanism. However, the study also highlights the need for stronger regulatory frameworks and more rigorous oversight to ensure consistent and optimal implementation. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on health law and policy by emphasizing accreditation not merely as an administrative requirement, but as a strategic legal instrument that reinforces hospital accountability and safeguards patient rights. It provides a framework for policymakers and healthcare institutions to strengthen accreditation systems as a means of promoting a high-quality, safe, and equitable healthcare environment in Indonesia.
