Ketidakefektifan Sistem Penyelesaian Sengketa Serta Tanggung Jawab Perserikatan Bangsa Bangsa dalam Sengketa Tak Berujung Antara Aljazair dan Maroko
Abstract
The breaking of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Morocco was surprising news, but the world community expected it. Algeria and Morocco have been at odds for nearly five decades. The conflict began in 1963 with a war over territorial boundaries and has since expanded to include other issues including as terrorism and philosophical differences over the Western Sahara region. Many international organizations, including the Organization of African Unity, the Arab Maghreb Union, and the United Nations, have helped the two countries establish a common ground. The United Nations is an international organization that plays an essential role in this conflict, as part of its mission to prevent and eliminate threats to peace by utilizing its organs' dispute resolution systems. The Secretary-General, the Security Council, and the General Assembly, to name a few UN bodies, have all been involved in this debate. Even worse, the fact that the argument is still going on shows the UN system's inefficiency. This raises the possibility that the conflict will worsen. The research method employed in this writing is a normative legal research method based on document analysis. Based on the findings, it is clear that the UN must be more aware and responsive in dealing with this conflict.
