Pengaruh Penggunaan TikTok terhadap Penguasaan Kosakata Bahasa Inggris Siswa Kelas Sembilan di UPT SPF SMP Negeri 54 Makassar

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine whether the use of TikTok affects the vocabulary mastery of ninth-grade students at UPT SPF SMP Negeri 54 Makassar during the 2024/2025 academic year. This study employs a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach, where two classes are selected, namely the experimental class and the control class. The population consists of ninth-grade students, and the sample taken consists of 33 students from each class, selected using purposive sampling technique. The data are analysed using a t-test to assess the impact of TikTok usage on students' vocabulary mastery. The results of the study indicate that there was a change in the pre-test and post-test scores in both classes, with the experimental class showing a more significant improvement compared to the control class. Based on the t-test results, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of TikTok has an effect on the vocabulary mastery of ninth-grade students.
