Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine whether the use of TikTok affects the vocabulary mastery of ninth-grade students at UPT SPF SMP Negeri 54 Makassar during the 2024/2025 academic year. This study employs a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach, where two classes are selected, namely the experimental class and the control class. The population consists of ninth-grade students, and the sample taken consists of 33 students from each class, selected using purposive sampling technique. The data are analysed using a t-test to assess the impact of TikTok usage on students' vocabulary mastery. The results of the study indicate that there was a change in the pre-test and post-test scores in both classes, with the experimental class showing a more significant improvement compared to the control class. Based on the t-test results, the alternative hypothesis (H^a) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H⁰) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of TikTok has an effect on the vocabulary mastery of ninth-grade students.
