Abstract

This study discusses the importance of parents' role in developing positive attitudes, particularly good manners, in children aged 7-12 years in Klepu Hamlet, Sumbermanjing Wetan, as a foundation for character formation that must begin in the family. Parents act as the first educators who introduce life values, such as how to speak, behave, and respect others according to applicable norms. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a single case study design in Klepu Hamlet to analyze the role of parents in depth. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with parents, children aged 7-12 years, and community leaders; observation of family interactions; and data triangulation for validation. Purposive sampling involved 5 parents, 5 children, and 2 community leaders, selected based on criteria such as active participation in parenting and family diversity, until data saturation was achieved. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions, while maintaining research ethics such as informed consent and confidentiality of identity. The results show that children in Klepu Hamlet demonstrate a lack of good manners towards their parents, such as the use of harsh language and lack of respect, as well as disruptive behavior such as shouting loudly and cycling disorderly. Contributing factors include the influence of uneducational media, negative social interactions, and reduced parental supervision due to work commitments. Parental efforts include providing regular advice and reprimands, serving as role models, limiting outdoor activities, and supporting communal activities such as religious study groups and mutual cooperation (gotong royong). Effective strategies include concrete examples and consistent repetition, involving children in social activities, and early childhood communication with local folklore, which have positive impacts such as improving social relationships, self-confidence, academic achievement, and preparation for adulthood. The active role of parents as role models, supported by community leaders, is crucial for developing strong character in children and contributing positively to society.
