Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of education in shaping social awareness of students at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar. Sociological education is an important means of instilling social values ​​such as empathy, solidarity, tolerance, and concern for the social environment. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that sociological learning at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar is able to increase the social awareness of students through contextual and participatory learning methods. Learning is not only theoretical, but also directed at understanding the social reality around students. This finding emphasizes that sociological education plays an important role in shaping the social character of students who care about society
