Abstract

This literature review aims to explore the opportunities and challenges of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of 21st-century education. Through a systematic literature study of various journal articles, conference proceedings, and research reports, this study analyzes AI applications in learning, its potential benefits for educational quality and accessibility, as well as the challenges and ethical issues associated with its implementation. The findings highlight AI's opportunities in personalizing learning, enhancing teaching efficiency, expanding access to education, and developing 21st-century skills. However, this research also identifies significant challenges such as algorithmic bias, data privacy, the evolving role of teachers, and the potential for a digital divide. The policy implications and best practices for the responsible implementation of AI in education are discussed, including the need for ethical regulatory frameworks, comprehensive teacher training, and the development of human-centered systems. The conclusion of this study underscores the transformative potential of AI in education, while emphasizing the importance of addressing existing challenges to ensure its effective and ethical adoption.
